Typical Iowa summer weather is expected as we head through the rest of the week and into the weekend.
Today will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy with high temperatures in the middle 80s to near 90°. Dew points will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s so it’s going to feel uncomfortable. We are tracking the potential of storms by afternoon and evening, especially in northeastern portions of the viewing area.
You’ll want to keep an eye on the radar throughout the day. We are tracking an area of storms in the northwestern Iowa and southern Minnesota that could make it into our area this afternoon.
There’s another chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight, especially north of Cedar Rapids. This is where the best potential of severe weather is today. Damaging wind 60-70 mph would be the main threat, followed by heavy rainfall which could lead to a flash flood potential if storms materialize.
Friday is going to be another hot and humid day with mainly dry conditions. Friday’s storm chances will be highly dependent on what happens today. If boundaries from any nighttime storms linger into Friday, those could be a focal point for an isolated storm during the day Friday.
The weekend looks mainly dry with temperatures in the lower 90s. Heat indicies could be 100° or higher, so take it easy outside and stay hydrated.
