The humidity level was very high today with dew point temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s. As the saying goes, it is not the heat…it is the humidity. No record high temperatures were broken today but the heat index in many locations was near or warmer than 110 degrees. The highest our dew point gets around here is in the low 80s. We were there today.
These were the highest dew points reported today:
Cedar Rapids: 81
Iowa City: 79
Let’s talk about the dew point temperature in Dubuque. The record and most recent reported was on July 7, 1980 and July 13, 1995 with a reading of 82. Today we got to 81. The chart below shows the highest dew point reported for each hour of the day and the date it occurred.
For example: at 2 pm today it was 80 and it tied the highest value ever recorded at that hour. At 5 pm today it was 81 and that tied the highest it has ever been at that hour. This just shows that it doesn’t get much more humid around here than what we had today.
