May 2019 Climate Numbers

May was cooler and wetter than average. The average temperatures in eastern Iowa were 2 to 3 degrees below normal. It was even colder to our northwest.

May 16 Iowa City: 91 (previous record 90 in 2001)


Rain amounts were way above normal. Some locations in eastern Iowa approached 10″ of rain. Southern Iowa rain amounts were 300% above average. Iowa City had measurable rain on 21 days in May.
