New Records

It was a record breaking cold day. We started out with record low temperatures.The record lows on the graphic below might not be the actual lows for the day. We might be colder by midnight.

We had plenty of sunshine all day but the air mass was just too cold to get us above zero. High temperatures only got into the teens below zero.

Dubuque broke the record for the coldest high temperature ever recorded. Not just in January…EVER.

Here are the other record cold high temperatures that were not broken:

Waterloo: -16 (Feb. 2, 1996)
Cedar Rapids: -15 (Feb. 2, 1996)
Iowa City: -13 (Jan. 6, 1912 and Feb. 3, 1996)
