CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) The UNI softball team fell 5-1 in their season opener to Southeast Missouri State to start off the 2019 season at the UNI-Dome Classic. The Panthers rebounded in the nightcap to defeat Toledo 5-1.

A four-run fourth inning for SEMO in the opening game put the Panthers in too big of a hole. The Redhawks Rachel Anderson struck the big blow with a two-run triple in to the left-centerfield gap.

The Panthers got a big performance from sophomore pitcher Emma Olejniczak in the Toledo game. Olejniczak scattered five hits and struck out four in a complete game shutout.

Brittney Krodinger and Sammey Bunch each drove in a pair of runs. Bunch opened the scoring with a two-run blast to left field in the bottom of the third inning.

The Panthers host Saint Louis and get a re-match with SE Missouri State on Saturday in the second day of the UNI-Dome Classic.
