CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) — UNI’s Matthew Cooks has been named the STATS-FCS national special teams player of the week following an impressive college debut in Ames on Saturday.

Cook opened the second half with a 50 yard field goal on his first career collegiate attempt. He later hit from 49 yards and went 4-for-4 on field goal attempts in the Panthers’ triple overtime loss to no. 21 Iowa State. The freshman from Cedar Falls also hit both of his extra point attempts.

Cook returns to familiar ground when UNI hosts Southern Utah in their home opener on Saturday.
