Xavier tops Central Dewitt for first title in 13 years

DES MOINES (KWWL) — Top seeded Cedar Rapids Xavier jumped on top early and cruised to the end, defeating Central Dewitt 8-1 to capture the class 3A state baseball title. The championship was the second for the Saints, but the first since 2006.

Xavier opened the scoring in the first as Nick Banowetz reached on an error allowing Kyle Moeder to score for a 1-0 lead. The Saints put up three runs in the opening frame.

They started to put it away in the fourth. Quinn Schulte sent a double deep in to the gap to score Jaxson Konzon for a 5-1 lead. Schulte later scored on a deep triple off the bat of Garrett Ries.

On the mound, Bryson Bastian struck out 11 in a complete game victory.
