IOWA CITY (KWWL) — The Iowa Hawkeyes scratched across the only run they needed as they topped no. 18 UC-Irvine 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The win, the second of the weekend, clinched a sixth straight series victory for the Hawkeyes.

In the fifth inning Iowa picked up the only run of the game. Senior Tanner Wetrich reached first on an infield hit, beating out a ground ball that was gloved just behind second base. That hit drove in pinch runner Lorenzo Elion.

Iowa’s Cam Bauman picked up the win scattering seven hits over five innings. Jason Foster and Grant Leonard shut the game down in the end with four hit-less innings. Leonard earned a six out save.

Iowa and UC-Irvine wrap up the series at 1:05 pm on Sunday at Dwayne Banks Field.
