Late flurry lifts Waterloo Black Hawks to win at Dubuque, first round bye

DUBUQUE (KWWL) — The Waterloo Black Hawks scored six goals in the final four minutes to blow past the Dubuque Fighting Saints 6-2 on Saturday night. The win clinched second place in the USHL’s Western Conference which comes with a first round bye in the Clark Cup playoffs.

The teams traded goals through the first two periods as James Marooney and Dane Montgomery lit the lamp for Waterloo in the first. Dubuque’s Mattias Maccellis responded with his 31st goal of the season in the opening period, while Willie Knierim scored a short handed equalizer in the second.

With less than six minutes to go, the floodgates opened. Kyle Haskins opened a scoring barrage that also saw Joe Cassetti, Vladislav Firstov, and Teddy Lagerback score in a span of four minutes, 23 seconds.
