SAN JOSE (KWWL) — Joe Pavelski scored his 45th career playoff goal on Wednesday night in San Jose’s 5-2 game one win over Las Vegas. The former Waterloo Black Hawk felt this one a bit more than the previous 44.

Fifteen minutes in to the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, San Jose’s Brent Burns fired a shot that ricocheted off Pavelski’s jaw and ended up in the net for the first tally of the game. Pavelski immediately skated off the ice with two broken teeth and a bloody lip. The Sharks’ veteran later returned with several stitches to finish off the remaining two periods.

Pavelski is currently in the 13th year of his NHL career. He and the Sharks take a 1-0 series lead over the Golden Knights in to game two on Friday night in San Jose.
