TULSA (Ok) — Iowa State’s Chase Straw is a Big 12 champion. The former Independence prep picked up a 3-2 win over Oklahoma’s Justin Thomas at 157 pounds for his first title. Even more importantly, the win secured the conference’s only automatic NCAA qualifying spot at that weight.

Straw’s win was the lone title in four finals matches featuring Cyclone wrestlers. Iowa State finished as the team runner-up behind champion Oklahoma State. In a resurgence from recent years, ISU qualified nine wrestlers for the NCAA championships.
