Dike-New Hartford earns spot in 1A title game

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) — Cade Bennett scored on three first half touchdown runs as Dike-New Hartford held off a late rally to take down Pella Christian and earn a spot in the class 1A championship game.

Bennett ran for 150 yards on 33 carries. His third touchdown just before the half put the Wolverines up 20-7 going in to the lockerroom.

Dike-New Hartford increased that edge in the third quarter. Drew Sonnenberg hit Jake Landphair for a 17-yard second half score. Minutes later Parker Kiewiet picked up his second interception of the game. On the next play Kiewiet burned his defender and took a Sonnenberg pass 70 yards for a 34-7 lead. Pella Christian scored a pair of fourth quarter toucuhdowns, but never threatened the DNH lead.

The top ranked Wolverines (12-0) will face West Sioux (11-1) in the 1A championship game on Friday.
