STILLWATER, Ok (KWWL) — A sell-out crowd saw Oklahoma State take seven of ten matches as the third ranked Cowboys topped number two Iowa 27-12 in a battle of two of the nation’s most storied programs. The loss marked the first for the Hawkeyes this season as they closed with a 14-1 record in dual meets.
The meet started unfavorably for Iowa when Oklahoma State’s Nick Piccininni handed defending NCAA champion Spencer Lee his first defeat by fall in his college career. That started off a string of three wins that had the Cowboys leading 12-0 early in the meet.
Iowa tenth ranked 174-pounder Pat Lugo ended the string with a 7-4 win over number five Kaden Gfeller. Iowa won the next two matches to tie the meet at 12 apiece, but dropped the final four matches of the dual.
