The Cedar Falls boys are the defending Class 4A State Champions. But, Friday night, upset-minded Waterloo West came to town wit no fear of the Tigers accolades. Watch some game highlights.
West got 28 points from 6-3 junior guard, Caleb Haag, in a dramatic 69-63, overtime victory in the season opener for both teams.
Cedar Falls led 17-13 after the first quarter, but the West defense limited the Tigers to just six second quarter points to take a 33-23 halftime lead.
Cedar Falls, led by senior Logan Wolf;s 20-points, overcame that 10-point deficit in the second half to force overtime. Wolf’s free throw with seconds remaining tied the game at 54, sending it into the OT.
West scored the first 8 point of the overtime period and outlasted the state champions for the victory.
West guard, Mondre Lagow, had a huge second half. The 6-foot junior did not score in the first half, but led the Wahawks down the stretch, scoring all 15 of his points in the second half.
Again, West junior Caleb Haag led all scorers with 28, including 17 in the first half.
