CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) – It’s a question that comes with no easy answers: How would you balance the federal budget? The University of Northern Iowa Department of Political Science and UNI chapter of the American Democracy Project will be hosting a budget simulation event to hone in on some answers, led by former gubernatorial Chief of Staff David Oman.
Oman is now senior advisor to the bipartisan Concord Coalition, an organization which works to balance the budget. Oman will give an overview of federal spending, and then a 90-minute exercise on Principles and Priorities will be the focus of the event. “Participants will review current federal spending priorities, tax policy and entitlement reform options and apply their own principles and negotiating skills to put forward a consensus-based deficit reduction plan,” according to a news release.
The interactive event is open to everyone. It’ll be March 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and held in the UNI Commons Slife Ballroom on campus (W 23rd Street).
