UPDATE: 1 killed, 1 hurt in crash on Highway 218 near Janesville

JANESVILLE, Iowa (KWWL) – One person was killed in a single-car crash on Highway 218 near Janesville Friday afternoon.

According to Janesville Police Chief Randy Samec, a vehicle traveling southbound left the road and rolled several times after landing in the median.  The driver was ejected and died at the scene.

Southbound traffic was backed up following the crash and re-routed through Janesville when possible.

UPDATE: The Iowa State Patrol says 19-year-old Julia Walters died in Friday’s accident. Walters was from Morrison, Illinois. 21-year-old Michaela Hibbard was injured in the crash, and taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office, Janesville Fire and Police, Iowa DOT, Iowa DNR and Waverly Ambulance Service assisted the Iowa State Patrol at the scene.
