Steve Schmitt to seek fourth term on Waterloo City Council

WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL) – 12-year Waterloo City Council member Steve Schmitt announced he will be running for his fourth term in the election this November.

In a press release, Schmitt assessed his goals coming in to office in 2007 while explaining his accomplishments and hopes for the future.

“I vowed to represent the taxpayers of Waterloo, and I believe I have done that,” he said. “We have to learn to live within our budget. Our continuously high tax rate is causing businesses to look elsewhere, and causing potential new businesses to pass us by.”

As one of the two At-Large council members, Schmitt says he will continue representing the taxpayers and will try to focus on the city as a whole rather than a few specific areas.

Schmitt cited his experience, both in City Council and as a board member to many of the city’s organizations, as beneficial to the taxpayers.
