Deputy dies following accident in Lyon County

LYON COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) – A sheriff’s deputy is in serious condition following a wreck in western Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a single vehicle crash.

A release from the Iowa Department of Public Safety said the crash happened Friday morning on K52.

A Lyon County Deputy was driving a squad car on K52 and failed to make a sharp curve. The squad car left the road and went into a ditch where it vaulted over a driveway and rolled.

The deputy has incapacitating injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.


UPDATE: Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Stephanie Schreurs, a 24-year veteran, died on August 13 from injuries sustained in a crash.

That accident happening on August 9.

The crash is being investigated by the Iowa State Patrol.
