UPDATE: 34-year-old James Stephon Joy has been charged with burglary in the second degree for the incident on East Fairchild Street.

An Iowa City Police investigation has discovered that last night just after 10 p.m., the male victim, an acquaintance of Joy’s, asked him to leave the residence. Joy became upset and pulled a gun from his waist. Joy then pointed the gun at the male victim saying “I’ll blow you.”

Joy then held the gun to the female victim’s head. Both victims were able to get away from the home and contact police. Joy then locked himself in the home for several hours while Iowa City Police Crisis Negotiations Team were on scene.

At about 8:15 a.m. today, Joy surrendered and was taken into custody. A search of the home found a BB gun that matched the description of the gun the victims had described. The BB gun and magazines were hidden in numerous areas in the residence.

Joy has been sent to the Johnson County Jail.
