WATERLOO (KWWL) – When students at Poyner Elementary heard that bus drivers wanted a drinking fountain with a water bottle-filling station they wrote to secure grant money to pay for the addition.
The students applied for two grants, and neither were approved. Then Lowe’s stepped in to cover the cost of the new stations. A station will be added to Durham School Services, on Black Hawk Street. Five more fountains will be added at Poyner Elementary.
Yesterday students and staff were joined by Lowe’s representatives to surprise Durham with the news. The Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Award was gifted to those students in the amount of $3,235.
