DES MOINES, Iowa (KWWL) — The ACLU and Planned Parenthood have filed a lawsuit over education defunding in Iowa.
The lawsuit is meant to block a law which excludes Planned Parenthood of the Heartland from receiving funding to provide sex education for youth in Iowa.
House File 766 was signed into law earlier this month by Governor Kim Reynolds. The law bans organizations that provide abortions, or advocate for access to legal abortions, from receiving certain grants that support sex education for the youth of Iowa.
The lawsuit asks the court to temporarily block implementation of the law until it can be further considered by the court. It also asks for a permanent injunction and that the court declare the law unconstitutional.
