WATERLOO, Ia (KWWL) — Security cameras will be installed at the East Park Avenue parking ramp in Waterloo.
There have been several accounts of criminal activity on ramp and in the parking garage, according to Chris Youngblut, city director of technology, and Mark Boesen, facilities manager – security cameras will “undoubtedly solve some of this.”
There was no disagreement on the over $64,000 resolution presented tonight. the Waterloo City Council passing it unanimously.
Over the past years, numerous crimes have been committed on this ramp, according to Chris Youngblut, Waterloo’s director of technology.
“In conjunction with the police department, building department, and the mayor’s office, we made it a priority to put these on in some of these areas of crimes reported, so hopefully our feeling is that this will help subside some of that.” Youngblut said.
Chris Bradford, a lifelong Waterloo resident, uses the ramp often and says cameras are greatly needed.
“…’Cause they got homeless people sleeping up in there. yeah! a lot of people don’t know that but they do,” Bradford said.
Youngblut and the facilities manager, mark Boesen, submitted the resolution and already know where they want to place the cameras.
“We’ll have cameras inside the ramp with general coverage of the parking areas. inside, some 360 degree cameras looking from all directions and we’ll also have cameras focused on the entrances and the exits,” Youngblut said.
The security cameras are expected to be installed as soon as this summer.
