The Iowa State Patrol will be on the look-out this weekend.
Beginning today, troopers will be enforcing their “Drive High, Get An OWI” campaign.
This effort to stop drug-impaired driving is happening today on 4-20, which is a day associated with smoking marijuana.
Troopers say, like drunk driving, drug-impaired driving puts not only you, but others at risk. Trooper David Goreham says, “Impaired driving, no matter what avenue you take to get there, whether it be alcohol, marijuana, prescription drugs, or even over-the-counter drugs, it’s illegal in all 50 states.”
Troopers will be arresting anyone caught driving impaired. They say people don’t think driving high affects your judgment, but it slows down reaction times and the ability to drive safely.
