Alliant Energy warns customers of a scam in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) – Alliant Energy is warning people of a scam.  A person is calling residents in Cedar Rapids with the threat that their electricity will be turned off if they don’t pay an outstanding bill with the company.

Cedar Rapids Police reports the person who is threatened is told to call a 1-800 number.  That number is then answered by someone posing as an employee at Alliant Energy and they attempt to gather personal and payment information.

Police remind everyone to never do a money transaction over the phone or give out your personal information.
