DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) – Sheriff’s deputies in Dubuque County say a woman was found dead inside a house that caught on fire Wednesday, and a man has been taken to Iowa City for his injuries after the blaze.

The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fire in the 16000 block of South Mound Road west of Sherrill around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. They say they crews found the home to be engulfed in flames, and the body of 53-year-old Lisa Kloft was found inside after the fire was eventually put out. 52-year-old John Ogelsby was first taken to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque for treatment, but then had to be airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Authorities did not list the severity of Ogelsby’s injuries in a release sent out Thursday afternoon.

Sheriff’s deputies say the house is being considered a total loss following the fire, with an estimated damage value of more than $150,000. Crews are still working to determine how the fire started, and the Iowa State Fire Marshal Division of the Iowa Department of Public Safety is also investigating at the scene. Crews from Sherrill and Holy Cross also responded to the scene on Wednesday.
