A new convention and event center will soon be in eastern Iowa.
Monday was the official groundbreaking at the Hilton Garden Inn in Cedar Falls. Mayor Jim Brown, city officials and others were there to celebrate.
The existing space is often filled to capacity.
The project includes renovating the existing space, as well as an 11,000 square foot expansion. The new center can host anything from meetings to weddings, and will be able to hold more than 700 people.
The prospect of boosting the economy in Cedar Falls appealed to owners, Chris-Bro Hospitality.
Chris-Bro Hospitality’s Chief Operating Officer Mark Aftanski said, “What we’re finding is that organizations, companies, everyone in the Cedar Valley is outgrowing that space. The Cedar Valley is growing so much that the opportunity to better serve the community was for us to expand.”
The Cedar Falls Convention and Event Center will open its doors in June of 2019. Officials say the center will also add dozens of jobs at the Hilton Garden Inn.
