CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KWWL) – One teacher wins $1,000 for the third Cedar Valley Tools for Schools award this school year.

Brett Willams is a social studies and mathematics teacher at Pete Junior High in Cedar Falls.

Williams hopes to use the award money to buy flexible seating inside of his classroom. He hopes this will allow him and other teachers to easily move tables and chairs to create a different learning environment each day.

He said this kind of seating will also make the students more comfortable, which will help them stay focused.

“It’s just a different way of being able to move around, and we do a lot of collaborative work with groups and students need to be able to move around to different parts of the room,” he said. “It just makes it easier when you’re not getting in and out of a desk.”

The Cedar Valley Tools for Schools program is a partnership between KWWL, the University of Iowa Community Credit Union and Kimball and Beecher.
