New turf installed at Kinnick Stadium due to water drainage issues

IOWA CITY, Iowa. (KWWL) – Heavy rain has forced the University of Iowa to replace Kinnick Stadium’s turf again.

That’s according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

A spokesperson for the University of Iowa’s planning, design and construction, said for the repair and replacement of the turf, they have a budget of $716,000.

That includes some work on the drainage below the turf.

UI Athletics Department said the turf at Kinnick had been in place for two seasons before it was damaged.

The hope is a portion of the cost will be covered by insurance, however it’s not yet known what that portion will be.

Experts estimate the turf will be fully in place by the end of next weekend, just ahead of the annual Kids at Kinnick day on August 10.
