Iowa City man leads deputies on high speed chase in Floyd County

FLOYD COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) — An Iowa City man is facing charges of intoxicated driving and running from police among others after a Friday evening chase.

In a release from Floyd County Sheriff Jeffery Crooks, Wayne Watson, 55, of Iowa City sped away from deputies when they attempted to pull him over on Highway 14.

Authorities said the car Watson was driving reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour before crashing into a ditch along 210th Street.

Watson was charged with felony eluding, operating while intoxicated (second offense), driving while license revoked, excessive speed, open container and driving on the wrong side of a divided highway.

No injuries were reported following the chase and more charges could happen as the case continues.
