University of Iowa cancels classes due to extreme cold

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KWWL) — Students at the University of Iowa will get some time off from class this week due to extremely frigid temperatures in the forecast.

A Hawk Alert was sent out Monday afternoon to cancel classes from 5 p.m. Tuesday through 12 p.m. Thursday on the Iowa City campus.

According to Media Relations Director Anne Bassett, the last time the university canceled classes for a full day was in December 2009.


Tuesday: All evening classes beginning at 5 p.m. or later.

Wednesday: All classes.

Thursday: All morning classes with classes resuming at noon.
