DES MOINES, Iowa (KWWL) – Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds is once again celebrating bowl season with another friendly wager, this time ahead of the Iowa Hawkeyes taking on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Outback Bowl on Tuesday in Tampa, Florida.
Gov. Reynolds and Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant have agreed to the wager. Here’s the deal: Simmons Farm-Raised Catfish from Yazoo City, Mississippi is on the line, along with fully-cooked turkey breasts from West Liberty. Standing to benefit are the Food Bank of Iowa, along with Stewpot Community Services in Mississippi, depending on the outcome of the New Year’s Day showdown.
“Iowa and Mississippi have a strong heritage in both producing great football teams and producing the food and fiber to fuel our country and our world,” Gov. Reynolds said. “But only one state will rise to the challenge in this bowl game, and I know our Hawkeyes, with an estimated 15,000 fans traveling to Florida to cheer them on, along with a big Hawkeye Wave back in Iowa, will bring home the win in the Outback Bowl. Go Hawks!”
Gov. Reynolds made a similar, friendly wager with Washington Gov. Jay Inslee ahead of last week’s Alamo Bowl pitting the Iowa State Cyclones against the Washington State Cougars.
