Dubuque man arrested in connection to shooting

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – Dubuque Police used traffic cameras once again in arresting someone wanted in connection to a shooting.

Dubuque Police said Frederick Lyterrel Bateast, 37, of Dubuque was arrested for a shooting that happened the night of June 16.

Between witness statements and video from the traffic cameras, police were able to determine a fight broke out on White Street between Bateast and victim Ricarddo Thomas, 35.

Bateast allegedy fired the shot that injured Thomas. Thomas was taken to MercyOne Dubuque where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

Officers conducted a search warrant June 18 of an apartment on Central Avenue and found clothing consistent to what they say Bateast was wearing at the time. They also found 9mm ammunition, which was what was used in the shooting.

Bateast was arrested on an warrant Saturday morning after turning himself in to authorities.

Bateast is charged with attempted murder which carried a maximum of 25 years in prison.
