Non-profits in Dubuque area raise money during 24-hour giving event

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) — The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque is hosting its annual Great Give Day event until midnight tonight.

All day Thursday, May 9th people can go online here and donate to non-profits in Dubuque County and the surrounding areas.

The foundation has been hosting the 24-hour fundraiser for six years and Wendy Sweeney says they look forward to seeing how much this year’s event can raise.

“We have raised over 1.5 million dollars in the last 5 years so we’re excited to see how much we can come up with this year.”

Sweeney says the event grows every year. This year is the biggest turn out of participating non-profits. This year 170 non-profits is participating.

The event began in Dubuque County, but this year organizations in counties from Allamakee County to Clinton as well as some from Jones and Delaware Counties will be taking place in the giving event.

Sweeney says the Great Give Day is a an easy way for the community to donate to their favorite non-profits.

“It’s a really fun day to come together and celebrate philanthropy in our region.”

Depending on what time people donate, that money could be matched or stretched further with the help of the event’s corporate sponsors. Here is a list of the “power hour” times:
