Dubuque prepares to host Citizens Police Academy

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – The Dubuque Police Department is taking applications for their 23rd annual Citizen’s Police Academy.

Dubuque Police said the program is to help build a better relationship between the people of Dubuque and police officers.

The program does not certify participants as law enforcement officers. All sessions will be taught by law enforcement professionals and others working in the criminal justice system.

The classes will include presentations on arrest procedures search and seizure, use of force and other topics.

Participants must be at least 18, be a resident of Dubuque, no felony convictions or significant arrest history.

Applications are due by January 25.
