UPDATE: Southwest Arterial/US20 nearing completion

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) — The construction of the new frontage road to Menards and the reconstruction of the US20/Old Highway Road intersection is nearing completion, according to the City of Dubuque Engineering Department.

The new intersection at US20 and Old Highway Road and Westside Drive reopened November 29, while the existing entrance/intersection at Menards from US20 is permanently closed.

The Department says, those who wish to get to businesses in the area on the south side of US20 will now need to utilize the new US20 and Old Highway Road intersection to access the new frontage road (Westside Drive) which provides access to Menards, businesses on the Westside Court, Longhorn Saddlery, and Gierke-Robinson.

Westbound US20 traffic will need to turn left at the new intersection of US20 and Westside Drive/Old Highway Road to access these businesses. Eastbound US20 traffic will need to turn right at the intersection of US20 and Westside Drive/Old Highway Road.

According to the City of Dubuque’s website, the Southwest Arterial (U.S. 52) will be a 6.1-mile, four-lane, divided freeway with priority-one access control and will provide an alternative route for traffic through southwestern Dubuque.

It will connect the Dubuque Technology Park on U.S. Hwy 61/151 with the new Dubuque Industrial Center West and the existing Dubuque Industrial Center near U.S. Hwy 20.
