UPDATE: Person threatens couple with box cutter before crashing into transformer

UPDATE: According to our coverage partners at the Telegraph Herald, Dubuque police said a man crashed into a vehicle and threatened the people inside with a box cutter before running away and crashing into an electrical transformer, causing a fire.

Tyler M. Olmstead, 21, of East Dubuque, backed his truck into a car in the parking lot of Shopko, 255 John F. Kennedy Rd., before 3 p.m. yesterday.

People who were in the car got out and confronted Olmstead. He then displayed a box cutter.

Olmstead got back into his truck and took off, when he lost control, crashing into a transformer and temporarily knocking out power to businesses in the area.

The truck then caught fire, but firefighters were able to douse the flames.

Olmstead was taken to a hospital for injuries where he was treated and released before being arrested.

He was released from jail this morning on a $3,500 signature bond and is facing two counts of assault while displaying a weapon.

DUBUQUE, Iowa – (KWWL) – The Dubuque Fire Department was called to a report of a vehicle on fire around 3 p.m. today.
