CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — Multiple fire crews responded to the report of a fire at International Paper Company, formerly the Cedar River Paper Company.
A press release from Cedar Rapids Fire Battalion Chief Brent Smith read the department received a report that smoke could be seen inside one of the paper milling processing stations. Fire crews found the fire to be inside the building near the machinery.
The fire was reported at 12:19 p.m.
The main fire was quickly brought under control and crews spent about three hours clearing smoldering paper products from the area.
The Ely and Swisher Fire Departments assisted in the call.
The International Paper Company remains fully operational at this time.
Authorities said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but is under investigation.
