Apartment unit damaged after fire in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. (KWWL) – Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to a report of a bed on fire inside an apartment building around 5 p.m. Saturday.

When crews arrived on scene, they found thick black smoke coming from an apartment building on Jacolyn Drive.

Fire crews located the apartment unit with the burning mattress and were able to put out the fire.

Cedar Rapids Fire Department said there was fire and water damage to the bedroom.They also said there was smoke damage to the rest of the apartment unit.

The rest of the apartment building wasn’t affected.

No injuries were reported.
