Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission Executive Director resigns

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) — The Civil Rights Commission is looking for a new Executive Director after LaSheila Yates recently resigned from the position.

Yates served in the position since 2014.

Senior Investigator Janet Abejo-Parker will serve as Acting Executive Director during the search process.

“The board would like to acknowledge LaSheila’s great contributions to the Civil Rights office,” said Salma Igram, Civil Rights Commission Board President. “We are confident in the abilities of the commission staff to continue their excellent work while we search for a new director.”

 The Cedar Rapids Civil Rights Commission (CRCRC) is an Administrative Law Agency which exists to: provide education and outreach to the community on civil rights and fair housing issues; receive citizen inquiries alleging discrimination; and determine jurisdiction under federal, state, and local civil rights laws.
