CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Video captured shows another fight on College Street, or “the hill,” over the weekend.
At one point it appears someone is slammed into the side of a car. This happened early Saturday morning around 2:00 a.m. At this time, no one has been arrested.
A post on social media shows the car that was near where the fight happened, now has a dent in the passenger’s side.
Cedar Falls Police Chief Jeff Olson says, “What typically happens is when the establishments close, somewhere between one and two in the morning, then you have everyone out on the streets, and then you tend to have some fights, like we had this weekend.”
Olson says earlier this year they added some high-definition security cameras to college street. His advice to others is, “if you’re on the hill when the establishments close, then just head home at that point.” He says this is still is a very safe and important part of this community.
Police have tripled staffing on College Street on Friday and Saturday nights. Olson says in Cedar Falls, crime has actually gone down by double-digits in the first six months of this year. He says it has increased in the area around “the hill” in the past month.
UPDATE: A Cedar Falls man is speaking out, after his car was damaged during the fight on College Street.
No arrests have been made from this weekend’s brawl, but Haki Al-Yassiri says he walked out to a dent on the side of his Mustang, and he says the fighting needs to stop.
“Just know that your actions have consequences; they have collateral, you’re not just affecting the person you’re in the confrontation with; you’re affecting everyone else around you in some way or another. I didn’t ask for it; we were all just there to have a good time,” he says. Al-Yassiri adds that he is even more upset about the damage because the Mustang was scheduled to be filmed in a few scenes in a movie this week.
