CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) – Members of March for Our Lives Iowa, Amnesty International and Moms Demand Action gathered in front of the U.S. District courthouse in Cedar Rapids Thursday night to stand in solidarity with those recently lost, and make a plea for change.

“That’s exactly why we’re out in front of Senator Ernst’s and Senator Grassley’s offices at the courthouse,” Olivia Kennedy with March for Our Lives Iowa said. “To make sure our representatives and senators know about this concern for gun violence, not only in the world, but in our communities here.”

Young activists read off the names of the 31 people killed in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas this past weekend; also honoring the seven killed in Chicago.

Some young adults, like recent graduates from Washington High School, shared how they’ve been personally affected by gun violence. Back in May, these classmates lost two friends just days before graduation.
