Name released of man killed in I-80 crash

Johnson County (KWWL) — One person is dead and two people are hurt after a three-car crash in Johnson County.

The crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 80.

Two victims were airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals; the other victim was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Iowa State Patrol says a car was traveling east in the westbound lanes.

That car collided with another car, head-on.

A third vehicle hit crash debris in the road.

The names of the victims are not being released at this time.

The Iowa Department of Transportation, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa City Police Department, Coralville Police Department, Coralville Fire, Oxford Fire, Tiffin Fire, Johnson County Ambulance, Iowa County Ambulance and Aircare all responded to the crash.


UPDATE: We now know the name of a person killed during a wrong way crash along I-80.

64-year-old Robert Sawyer was killed in the crash. He was from Texas.

58-year-old Mercedes Quevas and 32-year-old Stephen Lucore were taken to local hospitals.
