CEDAR FALLS, Ia (KWWL) — The Cedar Falls downtown area will likely see more available parking.
The city council tonight approved more parking spots with the first of three readings, after a public hearing tonight.
It got a little intense in the hearing, residents vented their frustrations at not being able to find parking spaces, amidst all of the activity in the downtown area.
With several folks on Main Street who frequent some of the popular eateries, like Whiskey Road and Scratch cupcakes all saying they would love to see more free and available parking spots.
Cedar falls City Engineer, Terra Ray, told the crowd,” adoption and implementation of the parking study recommendations will transform the downtown parking.”
That was echoed by Carol Lilly of Main Street, Cedar Falls.
“Just so customers can access the businesses that they love. We love our small businesses, we love the independent retailers that we have here, that’s what makes our community unique so we need to help find ways to help customers reach them.”
The council agreed they need to hear additional updates on parking in downtown and tonight, a unanimous vote in favor during tonight’s first reading.
The new map and updated ordinance is the first step to adopt the recommendations identified in the parking study.
