EXCLUSIVE: Person of interest in Huisentruit case to return to Iowa

KWWL- John Vansice intends to return to Iowa, possibly to clear his name in the disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit, according to Steve Ridge.

Ridge is an independent, investigative journalist who’s been one of the few people, other than police, that Vansice has spoken to.

Vansice was a friend of Huisentruit in the 90s. Vansice, being much older than Huisentruit, fit the profile, according to Ridge.

“In every respect, this is like a made for tv movie,” said Ridge.

Vansice has never been charged.

Police questioning him years ago, then filing a search warrant in March of 2018. That warrant is still sealed by a judge.

“I think it puts law enforcement in a position where they can’t really say anything because they can’t disclose information that might be known only to a perpetrator or to someone who was involved in some type of conspiracy,” said Ridge.

Now, after spending 22 years in Arizona, Ridge says Vansice is coming back to Iowa.

“It probably bears direct correlation to the face that not very many months ago he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. It’s a pretty progressive case,” said Ridge.

According to Ridge, Vansice is coming back to possibly consider legal action, saying he could file a libel suit against a former friend who he says has been feeding police false information for years

“I’ve gone out on a limb and predicted that somebody will, in fact, be arrested and charged. Whether they will be tried and convicted is a whole other question,” said Ridge.

He predicts an arrest could come on the 25th anniversary of Huisentruit’s disappearance, which would be June 27th, 2020.
