Waterloo (KWWL) — A Waterloo man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, after a deadly rollover crash in Waterloo.

Derrick Johnson was sentenced Monday.

Seven-month-old Liam Mwanje died as a result of the August 2017 crash.

The pickup Johnson was driving collided with a van at the intersection of Sycamore Street and East First Street.

A witness told KWWL in 2017 Johnson ran a stop sign, before running into the van.

Authorities say Johnson was speeding and driving distracted.

Authorities estimate, at the time of the crash, Johnson’s blood alcohol content was one and a half times the legal limit, and he had cocaine in his system.
