Cedar Rapids home has heavy smoke damage after fire

Cedar Rapids (KWWL) — An elderly woman has been displaced from her Cedar Rapids home, after a late night kitchen fire.

The fire happened around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of South View Drive northwest.

At one point during the fire, the woman was trapped on the back porch, but was eventually able to make it off safely.

No medical attention was required.

When fire crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the home.

Firefighters attacked the fire from the inside of the home, and were able to quickly put it out.

Officials say the home has heavy smoke, heat and water damage.

The fire is still under investigation.
