MADISON, Wisc. – The UNI track and field team put up the season’s best performance to date, ending with a world record, seven event wins 19 top-three finishes at the Wisconsin Alumni Meet Friday.
Jessica Heims shattered her previous discus world record by over three meters when she threw 35.53-meters (116-feet-6) on her first throw. Every single throw surpassed her previous record of 32.62.
The rest of the UNI team appears to be primed for the MVC Conference Championship.
Maddie McCalla ran a season-best time of 55.27 to win the 400-meter dash. Hope Koerperich took second in the javelin with a career-best throw of 149-feet-5 to move into second place in the MVC to date.
On the men’s side, Wal Khat won the 800-meter dash with a career-best time of 1:49.89, the second-best time in the MVC this season. Connor Ham and Cole Phillips took first and second in the 110-meter hurdles.
In the field events, Owen Minshall moved into the top spot in the MVC and took first in the high jump with a career-best leap of 6-feet-10.25. Cade Kirkpatrick topped his season best in the long jump with a leap of 23-feet-11.75 for the top spot at the meet.
Darius King broke his career mark in three separate throwing events. He won the shot put with a career-best mark of 60-feet-0.25, he was fifth in the discus with a career mark of 169-feet-7 inches and was eighth in the hammer throw with a throw of 182-feet-3.
Isaac Holtz won the discus with a throw of 187-feet-4.
The meet was the final of the regular season for the Panthers who now shift focus to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship next week in Terre Haute, Indiana. Action begins Friday and winds down Sunday.
