Deborah Norville returns to Inside Edition today

NEW YORK, New York—Inside Edition’s anchor, Deborah Norville returns to the show today, after having surgery to remove most of her thyroid following a cancer scare.

The first sign that something might be up came years ago, when an INSIDE EDITION viewer reached out to say she’d seen something on Deborah’s neck.

Deborah said at the time she went to the doctor, who said it was nothing, but she has continued to have the lump looked at ever since. Recently, Deborah learned that nodules on her thyroid tested positive for cancer.

Doctors removed the right lobe and center part of the thyroid during surgery. Although the procedure was routine, it was not without risk.

Deborah’s surgeon, Dr. William Kuhel, of Weill Cornell Medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital, was challenged to remove the right lobe of her thyroid without damaging the important nerves that power her vocal chords.

Deborah tells INSIDE EDITION, “The area where the thyroid is located is also where the nerves that control your voice box are located. And let’s face it, I talk for a living, so it was very, very scary for me.”

Deborah had her stitches removed on Friday. Dr. Kuhel placed the stitches under her skin to minimize scarring. He says in a few months, the two inch incision will be barely noticeable.
