Phone scam circulating in Linn County

LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) – The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about a phone scam.  In this one, people are receiving recorded phone messages in which the caller claims to be with the sheriff’s office, telling the person that there’s a warrant for their arrest for missing jury duty.

The person receiving the call is told to call the sheriff’s office back at 319-892-3056.  When they do, they are sent to the voicemail for Warrant Apprehension Sergeant Bradley Taylor.  If the person leaves a message with their information, the scammer calls them back to try to get that person to send gift cards or money orders for a type of bail.

Linn County authorities advise everyone this is a scam.  That phone number is not associated with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
