Facebook scam warning in Iowa

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an attempted scam on Facebook.

The Sheriff’s Office says the Facebook user received a Facebook message from a relative regarding a large cash award they allegedly won.

The user called that relative and found out it was a message for a financial scam.

No money was lost from the scam.

The Sheriff’s Office wanted to remind people to be cautious with any notifications pertaining to large amounts of money and can be claimed for a small fee. The legitimate prize awards will not ask you to pay up front to give the consumer the prize.
